Well... a bit about me, mostly!

I'm Steve Faber.  I am married to Linda, and we have six children

We live in Sleaford, which is in the middle of Lincolnshire (that's on the east coast of England.)  I am minister of the United Reformed Church minister, and I currently serve two local churches: Riverside Church in Sleaford, and Boston URC. Riverside takes the majority of my time, as the larger of the two churches. It is right in the middle of the town.  You can go on to visit our church website to find out more.

It shouldn't be too much surprise to learn that ministry takes up a lot of time, as does trying to be the best husband and father that I can be takes up a lot more.  I am particularly blessed that Linda is such a good mother and makes up for my deficiencies.  As well as being a great wife and mum, Linda still manages time for herself and her hobbies.  Her latest project is the Wellspring for life website, a place for women to be encouraged and equipped to be great women.  It has an increasing number of articles on how to live a more Christ-like life, and develop their own ministries.

What about my spare time?  Well, we keep tropical fish.  I like to read novels (John Grisham is my favourite author).  When I am feeling more energetic I can be found in the garage doing some woodwork; when I am not so energetic I can be found reading model railway magazines or books.  And now, after (cough) many years of thinking about it, I'm finally building my first layout.  It's an entirely fictional location in N (2mm) gauge, but with some hints towards eastern England, set (like so many...) towards the end of the steam era.  It is a tail chaser (for the uninitiated, that means an oval of track) with a mainline station, and a steep climb along a branch line to another station, and who knows what else.  The woodwork for the base board is mostly complete (I haven't made the hill yet), the mainline tracks and hidden sidings are down. All points will be remotely operated by Peco motors, and I'm currently working on electrics and electronics, and trying to solve a problem with my track-laying, which causes repeated derailments. I did mention that this is my first attempt at building a layout, didn't I?

The next stage, after finishing those jobs, is to work on the landscape for the branch line and get the track down do that, then I'll start to think about putting in scenery.  My children keep asking me when I'm going to be finished.  Well...let's just say it's taken a quarter of a century to get started, so the completion date isn't likely to be soon!

In between all of this, I like to do odd things with computers - my profession before training for Christian ministry was in IT support, which involved learning lots about hardware and software, and (usually) putting one of those or the users right when one or more things didn't work properly.  You get the idea...
